Summary

Tongo Point is a sheltered coral reef within a marine sanctuary featuring a sloping reef that drops into a steep wall to about 55 m. The site has abundant hard and soft corals, gorgonian fans, small caves and overhangs, and is popular for healthy corals and diverse marine life. Notable attractions include large clams and flame scallops on cave walls, leaf scorpionfish and pygmy seahorses in the shallows, frequent sightings of hawksbill and green turtles, schooling reef fish and occasional whale sharks. Access is by a short boat ride south of Moalboal with boat entry. Typical dives follow the sloping reef and drop-off, exploring small caves (some around 8 m) then traversing the coral wall. Depths range from the shallow reef top down to about 55 m. Currents are generally light to moderate with little current in the caves. Visibility is typically good at 20-30 m and water temperatures are warm, about 26-29 °C year-round. There are no significant overhead hazards or wrecks and the site is protected from fishing.
