Tiger Beach

Tiger Beach is a remote shallow sandbank off West End, Grand Bahama, renowned for shark diving. It is best known for reliable close encounters with large tiger sharks and commonly attracts lemon, nurse and Caribbean reef sharks, with occasional bull sharks and great hammerheads. The site is open ocean over a wide flat white-sand bottom with sparse coral formations at the edges and no walls or caves. Divers descend from a boat and typically kneel on the sand around a baited area while a guide deploys chum from a bucket or crate and forms a semi-circle so sharks pass down-current between divers. Normal depth is about 15-25 feet with some deeper sand channels to around 100 feet; a gentle current is common and visibility often exceeds 100 feet. Water temperatures generally range from the mid-70s to high 80s °F, dives can last up to two hours, divers are heavily weighted, and although there is no overhead terrain the presence of large predators requires following the guide, staying calm, and keeping limbs close to the body.
