Summary
Tank Rock is a dramatic Misool dive site centered on a surface rock that resembles a tank and three tall coral pinnacles rising from a sandy bottom toward shallow water. Steep coral-covered slopes, soft corals and sea fans create varied habitats that attract diverse marine life, including schooling snappers and trevallies, large groupers, pygmy seahorses on the fans, grey reef sharks in the blue and visiting green sea turtles.
Typical dives reach about 25-30 m, with very good to excellent visibility and water temperatures in the high 20s °C. Strong tidal currents are common, often moderate to strong, so dives are frequently drift style and access is by boat only. A common route is to descend the sloping reef (often keeping the reef on the left) and follow the underwater ridge toward the western edge to explore the pinnacles; the northern side has vertical walls and bommies while the southern flank slopes more gently. Because of the depth and currents the site is best suited to experienced or advanced divers, and reef hooks or securing lines plus a competent guide or crew are recommended.
