Small Giftun Drift
Giftun Islands
Dive Site Photos
Summary
Small Giftun is an offshore reef and wall dive off Small Giftun Island accessed by boat via moorings on a shallow coral plateau about 15-25 m deep. The plateau slopes into a steep, zigzag wall that drops to 20-30 m along the edge and continues to 40+ m and beyond, with the deepest sections extending past 100 m; the site is widely regarded as one of the most popular in the Giftun Islands. Notable fauna include large gorgonian fans with longnose hawkfish, sea turtles, Napoleon wrasse, giant moray eels and frequent pelagic sightings such as barracuda.
Divers typically enter from the mooring and perform a southbound drift along the reef wall. Depths commonly range from about 18-30 m on the plateau and 40+ m at the wall, with a tunnel or small cave around 45 m (not reachable on recreational air). Currents are often moderate to strong, usually pushing south, and the site is exposed to open-ocean conditions; drift technique, solid buoyancy and advanced experience are recommended. Divers should watch for rapid depth changes and avoid touching marine life in this protected area.
