Shark Ridge

Apo Reef

Dive Site Photos

Summary

Shark Ridge is a steep reef slope and wall on the outer edge of Apo Reef, named for regular sightings of reef sharks. The site features a flattened plateau that quickly descends into a vertical wall often carpeted with large gorgonian sea fans, with small caves and rocky overhangs that provide shelter for abundant marine life. Typical dives start on a sloping sandy bottom around 10–15 m and descend along the ridge to about 25–30 m. Access is by boat, usually from anchored liveaboards. Conditions are warm tropical water with often excellent visibility; strong open-ocean currents are common and drift-diving is typical. Due to the currents, sudden drop-offs and the deeper sections, divers should be experienced or advanced and exercise caution.
