Shark Junction
Grand Bahama
Dive Site Photos
Summary
Shark Junction is a shallow, popular boat-access reef off Freeport, Grand Bahama, known for frequent encounters with large Caribbean reef sharks that often circle among coral heads. The healthy reef on a sandy bottom with rock outcrops supports abundant marine life including large groupers, stingrays, and occasional green sea turtles, making close wildlife viewing the main attraction.
The site is dived from a moored boat with divers typically drifting slowly along an open reef; there are no caves or walls. Maximum depth is about 45 feet, currents are usually mild, visibility commonly 65 to 100 feet and can reach about 150 feet on clear days, and water temperatures are around the mid-70s °F. The dive is suitable for open-water certified or entry-level divers. Sharks at this site have sometimes been baited during dives and feeding is discouraged; otherwise there are no unusual hazards beyond standard reef diving precautions.
