Seargent Major

Sergeant Major is a coral reef dive site off Lanai featuring three parallel reef ridges separated by sandy channels and a prominent natural arch that forms a popular swim-through. The seabed consists of coral and sand patches and the site supports abundant marine life, including schools of tropical reef fish, frequent green sea turtles, occasional white-tip reef sharks, and a large moray eel. Access is by boat, typically mooring at a buoy near the reef; divers often begin on the inshore ridge and swim outward through the arch toward the outer ridges. Reported depths range from about 25 to 60 feet, with most reef structure in the 30 to 50-foot zone. Water temperatures are usually in the mid-70s °F and visibility commonly reaches 50 feet or more. The reef faces open ocean waters and can experience surges, and divers should be aware that larger pelagic animals may pass nearby.
