Pygmy Caves
Grand Bahama
Dive Site Photos
Summary
Pygmy Caves is a boat-access coral reef on the western coast of Grand Bahama Island notable for high coral heads that form numerous small cave-like tunnels and overhangs too small for a diver to swim through. The reef is characterized by large coral plates and gorgonian sea fans and supports abundant crevice-dwelling life, commonly including Caribbean spiny lobsters, spotted moray eels and schools of Atlantic spadefish.
The site is typically dived from a boat using moorings on the reef; divers follow the flat-topped reef along its drop-off to depths of about 60 to 80 feet. Currents are generally mild, visibility is very good, and water temperatures run in the high 70s to mid 80s °F. Maintain good buoyancy to avoid contact with delicate corals.
