Pescador West
Pescador Island
Dive Site Photos
Summary
Pescador West is a boat-access dive on the western side of Pescador Island characterized by steep hard- and soft-coral walls and the large vertical "Cathedral" swim-through. The site is known for rich marine life and abundant reef and macro life among overhangs; divers may see frogfish, ghost pipefish, moray eels, schooling jacks, butterflyfish, barracuda, reef sharks and occasional whale sharks.
The typical dive begins on a shallow reef flat around 3–5 m and descends along a wall to at least 20 m, with the dropoff continuing to about 60–65 m; the Cathedral opening is at about 16–18 m and can be swum vertically. Visibility is often 10–30 m and water temperature is in the mid-twenties °C. Currents are usually mild to moderate (up to about 3 knots) and can produce a drift dive along the wall. Entry is by boat only. Recommended level is Open Water, though deeper sections and the cave swimthrough suit experienced divers with proper training and equipment; be aware of cave swimthrough and current conditions, and the site may close in strong weather.
