Summary
Panagsama Reef at Panagsama Beach is a shallow coral and rocky reef renowned for its year-round sardine run and frequent sea turtle sightings. The reef has a gently sloping rocky formation beginning in very shallow water (about 3-5 m) with coral gardens, patches, small overhangs and ledges; corals and reef fish are most abundant between roughly 5-12 m.
Typical dives start in the shallow coral gardens and may drift through the center of the sardine school before continuing along the slope or nearby drop-offs. Overall dive depths are mostly shallow, about 5-30 m. Visibility is often 10-30 m and water temperatures typically range 26-30°C. Currents are usually mild but can be moderate along deeper reefs or at the base of slopes. Entry can be from the rocky shore or by boat using installed mooring buoys; shore entry is straightforward at low tide. No significant hazards are reported beyond boat traffic and the need for careful buoyancy near corals, and divers are expected to use moorings and follow local marine park regulations.
