Summary

Padre Burgos Jetty is a shallow shore-entry muck and macro dive at a concrete pier where encrusted pylons form an artificial-reef habitat. It is widely frequented by underwater photographers and divers seeking small critters, with routine encounters with seahorses, ornate and robust ghost pipefish, painted frogfish, nudibranchs and various small crustaceans. Divers enter from shore via slippery steps and typically descend at the concrete supports to swim along the pylons and adjacent sandy, silty areas. Depths are very shallow, about 3-5 m at pylon bases and roughly 8-10 m on the outer edges; visibility ranges from a few meters to around 15-20 m, water temperatures are about 25-30 °C, and currents are usually light. Boats use the pier by day so most diving is done at night and local rules may restrict daytime dives. Careful buoyancy is required to avoid stirring silt, and divers should watch for entanglement hazards such as discarded nets, fishing line and trash; there are no significant caves, walls, swim-throughs or wrecks at the site.
