Summary

MUSA (Museo Subacuático de Arte) is an underwater sculpture park and artificial reef off Isla Mujeres featuring more than 500 life-size cement statues and installations, including the Silent Evolution series, the Volkswagen Beetle "Anthropocene", and "The Bankers", arranged on a sandy seabed to encourage coral growth; it is a shallow, unique dive attraction rather than a natural reef or wreck. Dives are boat-only with no shore entry. Most sculptures sit around 9–10 m depth with the deepest sections near 11 m. Visibility often exceeds 20 m and water temperatures typically range 25–29°C. Currents are generally mild and dives follow guided routes weaving among statues on a flat sandy bottom; there are no overhead environments although some open statue frameworks can form small swim-throughs as coral develops. The site lies within a protected national park and requires adherence to park regulations, including a boat entry/conservation fee; touching the sculptures and fishing are prohibited, and divers should avoid contact with delicate coral.
