Summary

Muri Muri, often called "White Valley", is an ocean reef dive defined by a high-relief coral plateau that slopes into sandy valleys and dunes, creating a distinctive white channel that carries divers along the reef. The site is notable for its dramatic coral topography and rich marine life, with abundant reef fish and frequent sightings of garden eels, green sea turtles and patrolling reef sharks, plus schooling jacks, trevally, barracuda and tuna. Divers typically descend a mooring line from a boat outside the main lagoon near Motu Mute and drift along the reef. Depths range from about 18 to 37 metres; currents are variable—often a gentle to moderate drift but occasionally stronger—and visibility is generally excellent. Water temperatures are warm, in the mid-20s °C year-round. The dive is boat-access only with no shore entry and is recommended for intermediate to advanced divers because of the depth and possible currents; divers should be prepared for drift conditions and take care to protect the coral below them.
