Summary

Melasti is a macro-focused muck dive at Melasti Beach in the Amed area of Bali. The site consists of a gently sloping black sand bottom with scattered rocks and rubble and little live coral, and is renowned for its abundance of small, cryptic critters, including frogfish, ghost pipefish, leaf scorpionfish, harlequin shrimp and numerous nudibranchs. Entry is from the beach. Typical diving is shallow, with the top around 3–5 m and maximum depths around 15–20 m. Water temperatures are generally in the high 20s °C and visibility is often 10–25 m in calm conditions. Current is generally mild though moderate currents or surface waves can occur with wind or tide. Divers move slowly along the sandy slope and among rocky outcrops; the site is accessible to Open Water divers and is popular for relaxed daytime and night macro dives. Hazards are minimal and mainly standard precautions for occasional surface waves and careful footing on uneven sand and rock.
