Dive Site Photos

Summary

Manta Point Lama is a popular cleaning-station dive centered on a shallow limestone outcrop where reef manta rays (Manta alfredi) gather around a prominent cleaning rock. The site features a gently sloping rocky bottom with coral patches and small sandy bays, with manta sightings the main attraction. Divers usually descend to the cleaning rock at about 5 m, with mantas commonly seen between about 5 m and 15 m and dives reaching up to about 20 m. Entry is by boat to an exposed headland, so conditions are often affected by currents and surge and the site should be dived only in calm weather. Visibility is generally good but can decrease when plankton levels rise, and water temperatures are typically in the high 20s °C. Significant hazards include strong currents, surface swell and surge over rock ledges; divers should maintain buoyancy control around the cleaning station and practice conservation-minded diving.
