Summary

Madivaru Corner is a horseshoe-shaped coral reef just off the island of Madivaru in Rasdhoo (North Ari Atoll) with coral blocks, overhangs, sandy channels and steep walls. The site is renowned for big pelagic encounters and a shark-cleaning area, regularly hosting aggregations of reef sharks, schools of giant trevally and jacks, dogtooth tuna feeding on bait balls, and occasionally mantas and mobula rays; the big fish and dynamic reef life under current are the main attractions. Boat entry only; dives typically run along the reef edge from the inner lagoon slope outward and are often drift dives. Reef top depths are generally 15–22 m, the outer wall plunges to about 30 m and sandy patches occur around 26 m. Currents are strong and variable, with the incoming tide providing a steady right-to-left flow and divers commonly using reef hooks to hold position. Visibility is often around 20 m but can vary, and water temperatures are in the mid-20s to high-20s °C year-round. Strong surges and surging water over the reef are common, so the site is best suited to experienced divers; there is no shore entry and no overhead environment.
