Lehau

Lehau is a remote Niihau offshore wall dive focused on a submerged volcanic crater with steep vertical basalt walls, layered lava flows, pinnacles, large flooded lava tubes and natural arches such as the Lehua "Keyhole". The dramatic volcanic geology is the main attraction and the site is widely regarded as a bucket-list dive frequently offered by local charters. Dives are advanced boat dives, typically 50 to 100 ft with a maximum around 100 ft. Visibility is typically excellent, often over 100 ft, and water temperatures are warm year-round (about 75–82°F in summer and 70–77°F in winter). The site is exposed to open Pacific swells and moderate to strong currents; drift diving is the norm and good buoyancy control and experience with currents are required. Entry is by boat only. Significant considerations include the remote offshore location with a long boat ride, deep walls, and potential strong currents; divers commonly use nitrox and two tanks for these strenuous two-tank trips.
