Dive Site Photos
Summary
Lankan Manta Point is a reef dive celebrated for its reef manta (Manta alfredi) cleaning stations, where mantas circle large coral and sandstone outcrops for cleaner fish. The site features a gently sloping coral reef that drops to about 25 m, with the main cleaning stations typically between 14 and 20 m, and is widely regarded as a premier manta-encounter site.
Dives are boat entries and usually drift along the outer reef slope, moving southwards with the reef on the right; typical profiles range from about 8 m on the reef top down to 25 m at the deeper cleaning sites. Visibility is generally good and water temperatures are typically 27–30°C. Currents range from mild to moderate and peak during the southwest monsoon (May–November, especially June–October), so divers should be comfortable with drift diving and maintaining buoyancy; the area is protected and divers must follow the manta code of conduct and the guidance of dive guides.
