Lady Luck

Lady Luck is an intentionally sunk 324-foot tanker serving as an artificial reef in Pompano Beach's Shipwreck Park. The upright, intact wreck has a casino-themed underwater installation (giant dice, slot machines, an octopus dealer, a mermaid waitress and other sculptures) and offers swim-throughs of 16 former crew staterooms, the bridge, galley and engine room; its large hull and complex layout attract schools of fish and invertebrates. The site is boat-access only via a mooring or anchor line and is considered an advanced open-water dive because of its depth and conditions. Parts of the wreck rise to about 40-50 feet, with the deck reported at roughly 100-110 feet and the keel near 125-130 feet. Visibility is generally moderate (often 30-40 feet) but variable; strong currents and surge are common, especially with tides, so drift techniques, surface markers and careful buoyancy control are required. There is no overhead ceiling, though portions can be penetrated by advanced divers; decompression limits must be observed. Originally named Newtown Creek, the vessel operated as a sewage sludge tanker and was scuttled in July 2016 to create the dive attraction; it has been outfitted with themed sculptures and is a centerpiece of the local Shipwreck Park.
