Summary

Koh Doc Mai is a small uninhabited limestone island known as "Flower Island" with steep vertical walls on three sides and a sloping, coral-covered reef on the west. It is renowned for vibrant coral gardens and rich macro life, making it very popular with underwater photographers and a top dive in the Phuket/Phang Nga area. Access is by boat only. Dives commonly circumnavigate the island, with wall dives to about 25-30 meters and reef slopes around 12-20 meters; small caverns occur at roughly 13 and 18-22 meters, one allowing ascent into an air pocket. Visibility is often 10-20 meters but can drop to 5-10 meters on rough days, and water temperatures are typically in the mid to high 20s °C. Tidal currents can be moderate to strong so drift dives are common; enter up-current and drift along the wall or slope, and advanced buoyancy and drift skills are recommended. Entry is by boat only. Hazards include variable strong currents and occasional aggressive titan triggerfish.
