Hole In The Wall

Summary

Hole in the Wall is a deep wall reef dive built around a large natural tunnel that passes through the coral wall. Divers enter a sandy chute at about 12 m and slide through the broad "hole" to emerge on a sheer drop-off at roughly 30–35 m; the wall continues to about 40 m with numerous overhangs, caverns and swim-throughs often referred to as the "Swiss cheese" area. The site is widely dived and is noted for its dramatic vertical topography and tunnel swim-through experience. The site is accessed by boat and is typically done as a drift or back-reef dive. Typical visibility is 15–25 m and the water is described as warm tropical. Currents around the wall can be moderate, so divers commonly drift with the current; planned depths include the tunnel entry near 12 m, exiting the hole around 30–35 m, and the wall descending to about 40 m. Because of the depth and terrain, advanced certification and careful gas planning are recommended; divers commonly use nitrox up to 28% to extend bottom time. No decompression stops are planned for normal profiles, but good buoyancy control and careful dive management are required, and the site is not recommended for beginners.
