Hammerhead Site
Bimini
Dive Site Photos
Summary
Hammerhead Site is a boat-accessed shark dive off the west side of South Bimini, Bahamas, known for reliable encounters with large great hammerhead sharks during the winter season (roughly December through March). The site is a flat sandy seabed in shallow water and is focused entirely on baited shark encounters rather than reef or wreck features.
Dives are conducted from an anchored boat at about 20 feet depth with divers kneeling or floating around a central bait canister; safety divers and buoy lines are used and divers commonly re-enter the boat between sessions. Water is very clear and warm year-round with usually excellent visibility, and a moderate north-to-south Gulf-Stream-influenced current is common; operators adjust timing when winter nor'easters produce rough seas. Entry is always by boat and the shallow open-water setting is suitable for open-water certified divers.
