Great Cut
San Salvador
Dive Site Photos
Summary
Great Cut is a boat-accessible wall dive defined by a steep vertical reef wall with a parallel section and a series of holes and small tunnels that form swim-through passages. The wall is covered with hard and soft corals, sponges, and gorgonians, providing sculpted reef structure for exploration. It is a lesser-known site generally visited by local dive boats.
Divers descend from a mooring buoy and follow the wall; the dive reaches about 150 feet at its deepest. Visibility is usually excellent, often 90–100 feet or more in calm conditions, and currents are generally mild. Water temperatures are warm year-round, about 75–85°F. Because of the depth and profile, the site is typically reserved for experienced divers with deep-diving certification, and careful buoyancy control and air management are required.
