Ginnie Springs

Ginnie Springs is a freshwater site with crystal-clear water and extensive daylight caverns. The main spring basin is roughly 90 feet across with a sandy bottom about 12-15 feet deep and opens into a large limestone-ceiling chamber called the Ballroom, which is accessible to open-water divers and extends to about 50 feet before a welded iron grate blocks further access. The site also includes nearby cave entrances (Little Devil, Devil's Eye, Devil's Ear) and is widely regarded as one of the most popular and frequently dived sites. Entry is from shore via stairs and platforms; no boat is required. Visibility is exceptional, often around 200 feet, and water temperature stays near 72°F year-round. Shallow open-water areas are about 12-15 feet deep while the Ballroom reaches roughly 50 feet; nearby cave mouths descend to roughly 20-50 feet (Devil's Eye about 20 feet, Devil's Ear about 40 feet, Little Devil about 50 feet). Lateral currents are minimal but the upward spring outflow is strong and can push divers upward (notably at Devil's Ear). Divers must register at the dive center and follow park rules; permanent guidelines and the welded grate restrict penetration beyond daylight zones, only certified cavern or cave divers may penetrate or use dive lights, and solo diving is not permitted unless the diver is fully cave certified.
