Fish Rain

Fish Rain is a classic drift dive in the Pailolo Channel off eastern Molokai centered on a lush coral reef that begins around 80–100 feet and slopes into open blue water. The site is named for dense schools of small reef fish that can fill the water column, producing a "rain of fish" when currents stir the area; the reef and the pelagic drop-off are the primary attractions. Access is by dive boat with entry from the boat and a drift along the reef. Strong channel currents define the dive and it is commonly run as a two-tank drift to manage depth and current. Divers typically descend to 80–100 feet with some areas exceeding 140 feet, visibility is often clear tropical, and water temperatures are usually in the mid-70s to low 80s °F depending on season. Because of the depth and prevailing currents the site is rated advanced; good buoyancy, drift-dive experience, careful air and depth monitoring, and following guide instructions for entry and drift ascent back to the boat are required.
