Summary

An isolated coral pinnacle (thila) rising to within about 10–15 m of the surface with steep walls descending to sand at around 30–35 m, Fish Head is noted for abundant large marine life. Grey reef and white-tip reef sharks commonly patrol the deeper sections, a resident Napoleon wrasse is regularly encountered, and schools of giant trevally, barracuda, fusiliers, snappers and other reef fishes frequently aggregate around the reef, making big fauna the main attraction. Dives are typically strong-current drift dives accessed by boat, with divers commonly conducting a rapid descent to the reef top and then circling or drifting around the pinnacle. Visibility is generally good, often 15–30 m, and water temperatures are tropical, about 26–30 °C. The site suits intermediate and advanced divers due to currents and depths (open-water divers can enjoy the shallower reef top); it lies within a protected marine area where anchoring and fishing are prohibited. Divers should be aware of strong currents and the presence of large predators such as sharks.
