El Condesito

Summary

El Condesito centers on the wreck of a small cement-carrying cargo vessel and is the site’s main attraction. The wreck lies broken into sections, including a boiler and cargo holds, set within an undersea canyon flanked by steep volcanic walls and columnar basalt, giving the dive a strong wall-canyon character. The site is very popular and frequently visited by dive operators and clubs. The dive is boat-access only with the wreck situated around 10–20 meters depth and the seabed sloping deeper to about 40–60 meters beyond the site. Visibility is generally good, often 20–30 meters, and water temperatures range roughly 18–24 °C. Currents can be moderate at times, especially near the anchor point about 3.7 nautical miles from Los Cristianos; a surface marker buoy is recommended due to nearby boat traffic. The site is suitable for most recreational divers, though wreck penetration and exploring the deeper slopes are more challenging. The vessel sank in the early 1970s after suffering engine trouble during a storm while carrying cement. The wreck lies broken on the seabed and offers swim-throughs around the boiler and cargo holds, but sharp wreck debris and tangled lines are present and require care when working near the rusty structure.
