Deisan Wreck
Tubbataha Reef
Dive Site Photos
Summary
Deisan Wreck is a popular wreck-and-wall dive on the southeastern edge of Tubbataha South Atoll. The site pairs the remains of a small tanker or cargo vessel lying on a coral reef slope with a steep wall and a large V-shaped crevasse known as "The Cut", producing strong currents and frequent pelagic encounters; divers commonly see schools of trevally, snapper and yellowtail barracuda, grey and whitetip reef sharks, and foraging green turtles, with occasional sightings of larger pelagics.
Divers typically descend at the ship’s detached anchor or mooring and drift along the adjacent reef wall and coral shelves. The reef crest tops out around 10–15 m and the site drops to about 30 m maximum. Visibility often exceeds 20–30 m and water temperatures in the March–June season are typically in the mid-20s °C. Strong currents frequently sweep through the site so the dive is usually conducted as a drift dive; a surface marker buoy is strongly recommended. Entry is by boat only and the site is visited on liveaboards; strong currents and deep sections make this an advanced dive requiring drift skills and close guidance.
The wreck is the remains of a small tanker or cargo vessel that ran aground on the reef; much of the hull remains intact on the reef slope and a portion can protrude above the water at low tide. Divers often explore the wreck structure as part of a route that follows the adjacent wall and reef features.
