Deep Turbo

Gili Islands

Dive Site Photos

Summary

Deep Turbo is a drift reef dive off the northeast coast of Gili Trawangan featuring a sandy bottom at about 25-30 m that rises into numerous large coral pinnacles and ridges covered in hard and soft corals, including prominent gorgonian sea fans, with overhangs, caves and dramatic topography. Divers typically descend into a deep blue drop-off and drift along mounts and ledges, exploring coral gardens, swim-throughs and small caverns. Marine life is a major attraction, with thousands of garden eels, frequent white-tip and black-tip reef sharks, rays, turtles and schools of large reef fish. Diving conditions include clear, warm water with visibility typically 20-30 m or more and temperatures around 28-29°C. The reef slope averages 25-30 m with maximum depths to about 35 m; nitrox is commonly used to extend bottom time. Currents range from mild to very strong, so the site is usually done as a boat-entry drift dive; the depth and unpredictable currents make it suitable only for advanced divers, and the site may be inaccessible in very strong current or rough seas.
