Summary
Cuevones is a coral reef site defined by large coral heads, archways and cavern-like swim-throughs that create holes and tunnels to explore. These caverns and overhangs are a route highlight and provide sheltered habitat for many marine species, including nurse sharks. The site lies within a protected marine park, so divers should follow park regulations and avoid disturbing the habitat.
Access is by boat and dives are typically conducted as drift dives along the reef. Coral formations begin in relatively shallow water and the reef reaches about 20 m at its deepest. Water temperatures are warm year-round, generally in the mid-to-high 20s °C, and visibility is usually good. No strong currents are noted; the main caution is when passing through caverns and under coral overhangs.
