Summary
Cuevitas is a shallow coral reef site known for its network of small underwater arches and cavernous swim-throughs, earning the name "Little Caves." Divers follow gentle sloping reef formations with healthy coral heads and short swim-throughs; the site is widely regarded as one of the most popular and frequently dived reef sites in the Tulum area.
The site is accessed by a brief boat ride of about 5–10 minutes from shore, typically near Casa Cenote. Maximum depth is about 11 m with most exploration around 8–10 m, making it suitable for open-water certified divers. Visibility can reach up to 30 m on calm days and fall to around 10 m when seas are rough. Currents are generally mild or negligible in the lee of the reef and water temperatures typically range 26–29 °C. Typical dives loop around the reef arches and over the sandy bottom; swim-throughs are short and open to the surface so no overhead cave diving is required. Reported hazards are normal boat traffic and the need for standard buoyancy control in swim-throughs; the site is managed within the Mexican Caribbean Biosphere Reserve and divers should follow local guidelines to protect the reef.
