Summary
Chapel is a wall dive on Apo Island near the main village landing, starting on a shallow coral plateau around 5 m and sloping to a vertical reef wall that descends to about 25-30 m. The site is renowned for healthy hard and soft corals and prolific macro life, with frequent sightings of nudibranchs, frogfish, leaf scorpionfish, ribbon eels and crinoids; larger snappers, fusiliers, batfish and trevallies commonly patrol the slopes. The site lies within the Apo Island Marine Reserve with a maximum of 15 divers per dive and no fishing allowed.
Dives are typically done from boat, beginning on the 5 m coral garden and following the slope to the wall, which has a small cave or overhang entrance around 18 m and a flat top ideal for safety stops. Visibility is often 10-20 m, currents are generally gentle to moderate but can change with the tide, and water temperature is about 27-30 °C year-round. With maximum depths of 25-30 m, the site is best suited to intermediate to advanced divers and divemasters plan dives according to tidal conditions.
