Dive Site Photos
Summary
Carless Reef features two large coral pinnacles that rise nearly to the surface with a shallow plateau at about 12–17 m and a steep eastern wall plunging beyond 40 m with caves and overhangs. The site is famous for its rich marine life, notably a large population of moray eels that often approach divers, abundant nudibranchs among the corals, and frequent sightings of tuna and white-tip reef sharks, with occasional hammerheads.
The site is boat-access only and fully exposed to open-sea conditions, so surface waves and strong, unpredictable currents are common; diving is generally recommended only in calm weather and for experienced divers. Typical dive depths start on the plateau at 12–17 m, extend to 20–25 m along the wall, and can exceed 40 m on the deepest parts. Visibility is usually good and the water is warm year-round. Common plans include starting at the main mooring buoy to explore the coral garden and pinnacles or doing a drift from the north along the eastern drop-off and looping around the reef in a figure-eight back to the southern pinnacle.
