Cara A Cara
Roatan
Dive Site Photos
Summary
Cara a Cara is a boat-accessed reef on the south side of Roatan featuring a shallow coral plateau that drops off into a small vertical wall at about 18–21 m. The site is especially known for its resident Caribbean reef sharks and is commonly run as a “face-to-face” shark dive, with about 10–15 reef sharks often observed circling sandy outcrops near the wall.
Divers typically descend along a mooring line from a high-sided boat, back-rolling or stepping off into the current, and gather at the wall or on the sandy bottom. Typical maximum depth is about 18–21 m, water temperature about 26–28 °C, and visibility often more than 25 m. Currents can be strong, so the dive is recommended only for experienced divers; briefings emphasize remaining stationary, not touching or chasing the sharks, and a small amount of fish may be offered from a bucket to attract them for a short period. There are no overhead environments or caverns.
