Summary
Bunaken Timur 1 is a steep coral wall on the eastern side of Bunaken Island in Bunaken National Park, featuring a dramatic drop-off from a shallow reef top around 5 m to deeper wall sections. The walls and reef surfaces are covered in abundant hard and soft corals, sponges and sea whips, forming a rich reef ecosystem. Large schools of fusiliers and anthias are common, and divers frequently see green sea turtles, white-tip and black-tip reef sharks, occasional eagle rays and Napoleon wrasse; cracks and small caves hide nudibranchs and various crustaceans.
Entry is by boat. Depths range from about 5 m on the reef top down to roughly 30-40 m. Visibility is generally high, often 20-30 m or more, and water temperatures are around 27-29°C. Currents can be moderate to strong and changeable, so dives are typically drift dives following the prevailing flow and divers should pay attention to the current. The site is suitable for open-water certified divers.
