Bajo Manuelita

Cocos Island

Dive Site Photos

Summary

Bajo Manuelita is an offshore seamount dive with steep volcanic walls, pinnacles and basalt boulders and ledges. Divers typically descend into open water above the seamount and follow the slope; the site is known for abundant pelagic life, with scalloped hammerhead, silky and whitetip reef sharks commonly encountered at cleaning-station rock formations, and eagle rays, manta rays, occasional whale sharks and large jacks also regularly seen. Typical dives are boat-access drift dives, descending the outer slope and following pinnacles. Depths generally range from about 18–30 metres with maximums to around 35 metres. Visibility is often 20–30 metres and water temperatures are roughly 24–28 °C, though thermoclines and plankton blooms can affect conditions. Strong currents and surge are common, so advanced drift and deep-diving experience is recommended; a full scuba check, dive flag and required park permits and no-take rules apply.
