Antilla Wreck

Summary

The Antilla is a large World War II-era German cargo ship wreck about 120 meters long lying on its port side and functioning as an artificial reef. Parts of the mast and superstructure rise toward the surface, and the wreck is heavily encrusted with soft corals, sponges and other invertebrates while the site is teeming with tropical reef fish. This is a boat dive where divers typically anchor at the hull and descend along a guideline onto the wreck. The deck can be as shallow as about 5 m with the seabed around 18 m, visibility is usually good (often 10-30 m), and water temperatures are warm year-round in the mid-20s °C. Currents are generally mild. The site is very popular, so expect many divers and boat traffic; some sections are structurally fragile and there are sharp metal and entanglement hazards such as fishing line, so maintain good buoyancy, avoid touching rusted metal, and ascend on the anchor/decompression line. The 1940-vintage freighter offers open holds and collapsed sections that allow exploration of interior spaces and the engine room with proper lighting. Shallow parts are accessible to Open Water certified divers, while deeper sections and any penetration into enclosed areas require advanced wreck-diving training and experience.
