Summary
Anse Chastanet is a popular shore dive featuring a vibrant coral reef that begins a short swim from the sandy beach at the dive center. A shallow coral plateau (about 1.5-7.5 m) slopes steeply to around 43 m and is densely covered with gorgonians, soft corals, sponges and tropical fish, providing excellent opportunities for macro photography. The site is part of the Soufriere Marine Management Area and is commonly used as an orientation dive.
Entry is from the sandy shore with only a few meters' swim out to the reef. Visibility often exceeds 20 m and conditions are usually calm; water temperatures typically range 26-28 °C year-round. Depths span the 1.5-7.5 m plateau down to ~43 m, so deeper exploration requires advanced certification. Boat traffic is common offshore, so guided ascent routes or mooring lines are used; noted hazards include strong sunlight, boat traffic and the deeper sections. A 3 mm wetsuit is recommended and night dives are popular for spotting octopus, lobsters and other nocturnal crustaceans.
