Summary

Anita's Reef is a gently sloping coral reef that begins around 5 m and descends to about 28-30 m, punctuated by coral bommies, table corals, staghorn coral and white sand patches. The highlight is a large pinnacle rising from roughly 20 m to 12 m, covered in hard and soft corals and large sea fans; schools of glassfish swirl around the pinnacle, attracting predators such as trevally. The site is widely popular and is often used as an introductory or checkout dive on liveaboards. The dive is normally accessed by boat and is typically done by following the reef south from the shallow channel. Currents are mild to gentle, visibility commonly ranges 15-30 m, and water temperatures are in the mid-20s °C. Typical depths run from about 5 m down to 28-30 m. Divers may see sea fans, coral bommies, patches of garden eels on sand, blue-spotted (Kuhl's) stingrays resting on deeper sand patches beyond 12 m, and schooling trevallies around large granite boulders; there are no significant caves or swimthroughs, and territorial fish such as titan triggerfish may be present during breeding season.
