Summary
Angelfish Blue Hole is a near-vertical underwater sinkhole accessed by boat in an enclosed bay off Stocking Island. Divers descend through a small circular surface opening into a cavern-like chamber that widens with depth. The site is noted for abundant marine life, with schooling horse-eye jacks at the entrance, large blue parrotfish and other reef fish during the descent, queen angelfish and Caribbean spiny lobsters in small caverns, and frequent sightings of spotted eagle rays and sea turtles.
Entry is by boat and descent is through the surface opening into an overhead cavern; the sandy and rocky floor is around 60 ft deep with maximum reports near 90 ft. Strong tidal currents flow through the hole, so dives must be timed for slack or incoming tides because an outgoing tide can produce a powerful outflow that may prevent exiting the bottom chamber; the site is therefore recommended for experienced/advanced divers. Visibility is typically clear like other Bahamian waters, and water temperatures range from about 75–80°F in winter to around 88°F in summer.
