Anemone Reef

Summary

Anemone Reef is a submerged limestone pinnacle densely covered in thousands of green and blue sea anemones and soft corals, with rich coral growth on all sides and extensive anemone gardens on the shallow sections. The pinnacle offers both deeper reef faces and shallow, sheltered topography, rising from about 25-30 m to a shallow tip around 5-6 m below the surface. Diving is conducted from boat using a fixed mooring at the shallow northern end. Currents typically run along the reef in a north-south direction and can be moderate to strong, so dives commonly descend at one end, circle the pinnacle and ascend while moving upward along the reef, finishing with a safety stop on the mooring. Visibility is generally good, often about 5-20 m, and depth ranges from roughly 25-30 m at the base up to about 5-6 m at the pinnacle top. There is no overhead environment; reef currents are the main factor to plan for, and the site is frequently done by advanced divers due to its maximum depths and potential currents.
