Amos Rock
Tubbataha Reef
Dive Site Photos
Summary
Amos Rock is a prominent vertical wall on the North Atoll of Tubbataha Reef, beginning on a coral-covered slope and plunging into a near-vertical wall encrusted with hard and soft corals, sponges, gorgonians and large sea fans. The wall supports abundant reef fish and invertebrates at all levels and often attracts large pelagic species in the blue, including reef manta rays and various reef sharks.
Dives start from a mooring buoy on liveaboard boats and descend along the wall to explore coral terraces, overhangs and crevices. The wall drops to around 50–60 m and has been reported as deep as 70 m. Conditions commonly include warm water around 26–28 °C and excellent visibility often exceeding 20–30 m. Strong, unpredictable currents are common so dives are usually drift-style; hazards cited include deep depth and surging current. The site lies within the protected Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park where only permitted liveaboard operations and mooring lines are used.
